Images captured during a non-conference exhibition match between the Lady Lions of New Brighton and the Lady Panthers of Riverside held at New Brighton HS Soccer Field on September 20, 2012. This was a hard fought match between these long-time rivals as the first half ended with New Brighton trailing 2-1. Elaina Smith posting the lone NB goal of the first half, but just like in the previous day's game against Mohawk, the young Lady Lions would not give up as they fought back with Kiersten Manor again scored the tying goal with about 5 minutes to play. Regulation time ended with the score knotted at 2-2. The Lady Lions came out blazing in the first OT period as they kept up the pressure. Only 1 minute into the OT period, Freshman Maya Watkins forced a error down the right side of Riverside's defensive zone and took possession of the ball, went straight to goal and hit a resounding left-footed strike from 12 yards out that found the top left corner of the goal and sent the New Brighton players running onto to the field as they celebrated a 3-2 victory. What a great played game by both squads! Next up for the New Brighton Girls will be Section 1-A match against South Side HS to be held on September 22th at Richard Ashcroft Stadium at South Side HS.
