Images from the Quarterfinal Round of the WPIAL Class AA Playoffs between the 5th Ranked Lady Lions of New Brighton and the 14th Ranked South Allegheny Gladiators. South Allegheny jumped on top early after a 3 run homerun in the top of the 1st inning and made some outstanding defensive plays throughout the game. New Brighton stayed calm though and slowly chipped away at the lead. After a 2-out run-scoring base hit by April Bradley in the bottom of the 6th, they pulled to a 3-3 tie and were poised to win it in the bottom of the 7th. The fiesty Gladiators had different plans and would not go away. With 2-outs they got a walk, a run-scoring triple and added another insurance run in the top of the 7th to pull ahead 5-3. The Lady Lions lead off with a single in the bottom of the 7th, but couldn't get anything else going this time around as South Allegheny would hold on for the 5-3 victory and move onto the Semi-finals to face Burrell. The Lady Lions played very well and showed a lot of character by keeping their poise and putting themselves in a position to win it in the end. Congratulations to the entire team on an outstanding season (16-6), and we're all looking forward to next season and a return trip to these same playoffs to finish what was started this year!
