Moraine in the Morning

Images shot at Moraine State Park on a Sunday morning. Didn't get out as early as I'd had liked, but got a few decent shots including some B/W's at the end. The first shots of the farm were taken while on the drive to the park. I was playing around with different metering options and points. Needed a longer lens at the waterfowl observation area of the park. There is tons of wildlife at Moraine and plan to return several times and hit the trails. Got a few decent shots of a Red-Bellied Woodpecker near the Osprey nesting area. Haven't fully post-processed the images of the woodpecker in the tree, but wanted to get them out there in the interim.

Simple shot of a row of trees and farm along the drive to Moraine State Park in the morning. Almost passed this up because I drive through here quite often. The sunlight coming from the left and the golden "tones" made me turn around and go back.

  • Early morning sunlight and fog that hasn't quite burned off yet, combined that with an awesome red barn and the cows. Experimented with some meter settings here (pattern, center weight & spot). Took several shots with different angles and meter settings to give different looks. Overall pretty satisfied although got some flare in a few of the images.

  • Tried to sneak up on some Canadian Geese in a corn field, but needed a longer lens. Liked the look so kept in here.
  • The following are some shots from the waterfowl observation area of Moraine State Park. The water was a little "choppy" to get any decent reflections. Nothing special here, but liked this image because when you enlarge it, the tones in the Canadian Geese feathers are really nice.
  • Image 1 of 4 of Canadian Goose flapping it's wings for some unknown reason. reason.

  • I found it funny that all of their heads were underwater. Love the colors in the feathers when this image is enlarged.
  • Image 1 of 7 of this gull. He kept flying by and unfortunately didn't get any closer and I didn't have a longer lens. Shot this handheld and was trying to find a balance of blurring the background to bring the subject out, holding the detail in the bird without blowing out the "whites" and stopping motion. Will probably shoot a slightly higher ISO next time to allow a little more flexibility.
